Qualitative status for implementation
In 2022, a regional system for digital identity that is interoperable between West African countries (ECOWAS) waslaunched in Niger. The project intended to support the establishment of a biometric ID for domestic and regional use (WURI Program). But, in 2024, Niger left ECOWAS, meaning that their citizens will no longer be able to use the ECOWAS Passport or biometric ID card, and they will not be part of the WURI digital ID program.
